Alumni Meetings

All clients are encouraged to participate in the on-site alumni meetings which are held on the first and third Wednesday evenings of the month. Previous to the speaker meeting, our chef prepares and serves a delicious and nutritious meal and alumni share their experiences of hope, strength and fellowship.

Annual Alumni Reunion

Alumni are invited to fully participate in all aspects of planning and implementation of the annual alumni weekend. Inspirational recovery workshops, yoga on the beach, barbeques, laughter and fellowship characterize the weekend in which friends and families are encouraged to attend. Sober recreation is a highlight of the weekend including golf, sailing and other Malibu adventures.
Comprehensive Continuing Care Plan with Therapeutic Support and Recommendations for Optimal Living

Environment

Each client is individually assisted in locating appropriate therapeutic support in her home area. This could be an individual therapist and/or intensive outpatient program. Before the client leaves Summit Malibu, she has a scheduled appointment with the therapeutic support person or program. The Multidisciplinary Team supports the client by making suggestions for the safest living environment to maintain the client's sobriety. This environment may be a return to the home with a sober companion or a transitional living arrangement, such as a Sober Living Home. The Clinical Assistants will help the client with site visits and site comparisons (they also may attend in-house meeting times so clients can interact with potential housemates).

Temporary Sponsor and 12-Step Support

Summit Malibu' Clinical Assistants take each client to local 12-Step meetings and show him how to choose a temporary sponsor who will orient him to the benefits of sponsorship in the program. The sponsor will guide the client through the decision making process of choosing a permanent sponsor. All clients leave Summit Malibu with local 12-Step meeting schedules.

Scheduled contact with Alumni Coordinator

Research has shown that close communication with the client's treatment center is a key indicator for success. Summit Malibu offers excellent communication with our Alumni via a highly structured, telephonic continuing care. The Alumni Coordinator calls each Alumnus for one year: once a week for the first month; twice a month for the second month; and monthly thereafter. If an alumnus requests additional support to the Alumni Coordinator, a therapist will call and initiate a telephone session with him.

Telephonic Support

E-mail contact and telephone access to Summit Malibu 24/7 are available for life. Summit Malibu believes that this lifeline is crucial for every Alumnus.

Recommendations for spiritual care

All clients are encouraged to seek a spiritual support team via their spiritual resources. Summit Malibu will help the client seek introductions or renew previously meaningful spiritual connections in their local area.
